With great delight we welcome Katja Ruge from Hamburg with her exhibition Warp Records – a label in pictures.
Having been successfully shown at the Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg and Baustelle Kalk e.V. in Cologne, the exhibition finally moves to Berlin!
Leeds in the early 1990s …
At the time, Katja was living in Manchester, working as a photo assistant for Peter J. Walsh, who, as resident photographer at the Hacienda and NME staff photographer, portrayed many legendary musicians. They drove to Leeds to meet up with LFO for a photo shooting. “There, coming from a backyard, we heard a bass sound like I’d never heard before.”
Thus started her love for the Warp Records label with all its musical variations.
Later, back in Hamburg, she did photo sessions on her own for acts like Autechre, Plaid, Aphex Twin and many others. These pix will be shown at Echo Bücher!
Katja Ruge has been around as a music photographer for many years and recently created quite a stir with her exhibition “Ladyflash – Frauen in der Musik/Women in Music”.
Her exhibition “Kann denn Liebe Synthie sein? Stills von den wichtigsten Analog-Synthesizern und Drum Machines”/”Can Love Be Synth? Stills of the most important analogue synthesizers and drum machines” was part of the South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, and the Gottwood Festival in Wales.

She runs a party of the same name at the Golem Club in Hamburg, deejaying there herself. Having been the photographer of the famous Golden Pudel Club for many years, she is a fixture of the Hamburg nightlife, combining music and photography like no one else.
Mira Calix is an award winning artist, composer and performer based in the United Kingdom. Music and sound have always been at the centre of her practice, which she continues to integrate with visual media and technological innovation to create multi-disciplinary installations and performance works. Her new videao art piece, By the Sea (Recharging), is very much about our relationship with technology, ‘being alone together’ and how we are complicit in the maintenance of our tools of distraction, with it’s inevitable obsoletism and needs. We are compelled to feed the machines in order to make our lives ‘easier’
As deejays for the opening of exhibition, Katja Ruge has invited Ralf Köster of the Golden Pudel Club and Heiko Hoffmann from Groove Magazine, both long-time friends of hers.

Wir freuen uns, die Fotografin Katja Ruge aus Hamburg bei uns begrüßen zu dürfen mit ihrer Ausstellung Warp Records – Ein Label in Bildern.
Nachdem die Ausstellung im Golden Pudel Club Hamburg und Baustelle Kalk E.V. in Köln erfolgreich gezeigt worden ist, kommt sie nun endlich nach Berlin.
Leeds in den frühen 90ern …
Katja lebte damals in Manchester und arbeitete als Fotoassistentin von Peter J. Walsh, der als Fotograf des Clubs Hacienda und NME Staff Photographer zu der Zeit viele legendäre Musiker portraitierte. Man fuhr nach Leeds, um sich mit der Band LFO zu treffen für ein Photoshooting. „Dort angekommen, hörten wir im Hinterhof einen Bass, den ich so noch nie gehört hatte.“
Damit entbrannte ihre Liebe zu dem Label Warp Records mit all seinen musikalischen Facetten.
Später in Hamburg folgten eigene Photosessions mit Autechre, Plaid, Aphex Twin u.v.m. Diese Bilder wird es bei Echo Bücher zu sehen geben!
Katja Ruge ist seit Jahren als Musikfotografin umtriebig und hat mit ihrer Ausstellung „Ladyflash – Frauen in der Musik“ letztes Jahr für Furore gesorgt.
Mit ihrer Ausstellung Kann denn Liebe Synthie sein?, Stills von den wichtigsten Analog-Synthesizern und Drum Machines war sie u.a. bereits auf dem South by Southwest in Austin und dem Gottwood Festival in Wales.

Mit ihrer gleichnamigen Partyreihe im Golem in Hamburg, wo sie selber auch auflegt, und als langjährige Fotografin des Golden Pudel Clubs ist sie aus dem Nachtleben nicht mehr weg zu denken. Sie vereint Fotografie und Musik wie keine andere.
Mira Calix ist das Pseudonym der südafrikanischen Künstlerin Musikerin und Musikproduzentin Chantal Passamonte (* 1969 in Durban, Südafrika). Ihre Musik lässt sich dem Genre experimentelle Electronica zurechnen und wird vom britischen Label Warp Records veröffentlicht.
Zur Vernissage hat Katja Ruge als DJs Ralf Köster vom Golden Pudel Club und Heiko Hoffmann vom Groove Magazine eingeladen, mit denen sie eine langjährige Freundschaft verbindet.
